With each hotly anticipated release, Supplement Facts Records re-confirm their
status as one of the most consistent, forward thinking labels of today. Their
How Do You Sleep At Night EP further highlights this tag, as it showcases
three new tracks from a choice collective of producers. In Our Own City sees
label a&r and regular contributor Varoslav finally team up with the producer
who, over the years has greatly influenced his own style and sound, fellow
Parisian, David K. A first return to the label for David since his 2008 Jaffa
Night sees the pair create an elegantly twisted cut. A weirdly trippy and yet
warmly comforting main riff flows brilliantly with its array of drums and wildy
pitched, classic acapella. Druggy, warehouse music at its finest ladies and
gentleman. Our second track comes from what can only be described as a power
collective. With a roster that reads like a whos who? of the modern house
cool school, Soldiers With Limits are an act that are set to excite and
ignite for some time to come, and Supplement Facts bring you their very first
outing. Guti, Soul Clap, Le Loup, Greg Paulus, Shaun Reeves and Tanner Ross all
lend their talents on the fantastically future/retro “Get Paid, Get Laid”. The
track comes off like a never-ending James Brown breakdown; the whispered,
building vocals over the ever-building breaks and beats. The track teases you,
and after its six and a half minutes of foreplay you are left nervously wanting
to hit repeat if only to hear the fantastic payoff of melody that it delivers
tantalisingly towards its finale. Label debutant Dave Ellesmere seems intent on
giving us a crash course in hihat production in his track “Always Love” . Over
its brooding, swelling chord rattles, what sounds like a flock of hihats each
pushing every possible combination of rhythm to occupy the high frequencies of
your hearing range. Couple this exuberance of tribal percussion with the
fantastic sparse vocal stabs and you have one seriously danceable number. So
from the sweatiest of Warehouse gigs, to sun drenched beaches, via pimped out
P-Funkd Paris hotel parties, the How Do You Sleep At Night EP does indeed ask
the right question. With jams like these, why would you want to?
