Deeplay Music boss man Martin Brodin launches his new MB Disco imprint with Croatian disco deity Ilija Rudman the object of some remix treatment on the inaugural release. Lifting Rudman’s “See” from the Deeplay archives Brodin embellishes the track with a burning boogie strut, with overdubbed synth lines the melodic backdrop to filtered vocals and a chuggy beat. The ever mysterious Drop Out Orchestra opt for a more traditional NYC Disco flavour on their remix with low slung bass and rhythm licks in abundance amidst the glittering flourishes. With subsequent releases from the likes of Newcleus, Ray Mang and Giorgio Moroder on the horizon, Brodin’s imprint is certainly one to look out for.

Having impressed the likes of Jacques Renault and Social Disco Club with their debut release “Star Wash”, Stuttgart trio Space Ranger make a swift return to the Love Monk imprint for more excursions into the lower echelons of cosmic disco. The title track sees a straight kick complemented with real subtlety by additional percussive perks and key stabs as a heavily filtered snatch of obscure sampledelica ascends and straightens out to signal the onset of the main cosmic groove. Rare Wiri Records honcho Rayko is on hand to remix “Superstrings”, slowing down the pace and upping the psychedelic feel with hypnotic results. On the flip, Space Ranger opt for an up tempo space funk boogie approach on “Shave Me, I’m Famous” which combines a snappy beat with taut Chic esque bass lines and intermittent filtered drops. Modern Italo icon Ajello opts to replace the funk feel with trademark arpeggiated movements to great effect.

Australian duo The Loin Brothers make a belated return to the CDJ decks of discotheques everywhere with Garden Of Vargulf”. The duo’s previous outing on Future Classics charmed the ears of Ivan Smagghe so much he included “Heavy Helmet” in his Robert Johnson mix. “Garden Of Vargulf” brings to mind the hirsute Euro Disco pioneer Cerrone as a gloriously strutting bassline is imbued with surging string arrangements before the disco odyssey climaxes on a howling guitar solo. The duo supply an Acid Re-Rub which drops masses of piano stabs on top of the gurgling acid lines before building towards a crescendo of instrumental chaos. Remixes take the track into less frenetic but no less impressive territory with Melbourne’s Tornado Wallace adding to a growing reputation with a shimmering late night deep house jam. Woolfy Vs Projections (Rong/Permanent Vacation) opt for an even more drastic rework, with a final sound approaching astral tropical bliss made even more special by the late arrival of Woolfy’s soothing vocals.
