After the chart success of the original EP a few months back, Sleaze head quarters have offered up a second helping of the Level Me EP in the form of this monstrous remix pack. The package contains four new cuts of extreme techno madness from Soma new boy, Gary Beck, the label boss, Hans Bouffmyhre, the massive Chris Liebing and the genius of Billy Johnston & Gennaro Mastrantonio.
In line with what you would expect all four tracks are forward thinking, dark dance floor gems. Essentially the Gary Beck Remix of ACB Experiment is just one huge loop, but… this is by no means a bad thing. The loop itself is comprised of simple and effective sounds and a filthy bass line giving the track a dark an underground techno feeling that is as modern as it is classic.
Hans Bouffmyhre’s take on Awesome Button is in keeping with the underground feeling of the EP but, has a much more minimal feeling at it’s core. Interesting arrangement and fills keep the ear well trained whilst the vocal and percussion loops give the recording an obscure mood. Quality minimal from the first down beat!
Although the underground credibility of the EP has been mentioned a few times up to this point the stand out record has to be the Chris Liebing Remix of Level Me. This is the hardest and techiest remix on the package and is supported by a massive over driven kick drum and some quality production. The second half only improves on the quality of the first with the addition of some fantastic acid influences bouncing around in a truly class soundscape.
And finally, Billy Johnston & Gennaro Mastrantonio’s remix of Odd Steps is the final track on the EP. This is a superb cut of techno music that teases and plays with the senses. Mysterious, murky and dark are all words that spring to mind and this in itself is enough to get the alternative lover out in us all.
Overall the EP is testament to a successful year for one of the finest techno labels to be working in the UK at the moment.
